Article “Economic-financial feasibility of pantaneiro lamb finishing systems” published in the journal Ciência Rural (Vol. 48, No. 7), performed by researchers of the Anhanguera University, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, analyzed the profitability, economic efficiency and price sensitivity of pantaneiro lamb finishing systems in feedlot and semi-feedlot. When calculating the profit in all scenarios evaluated, they obtained gross margin of 69% and 52% and net margin of 65% and 48% for both systems. The profitability index was 39% and 29%. The internal rates of return of 27% and 16% showed that the systems are economically viable.

According to researcher José Francisco dos Reis Neto, the results of the study serve as parameters for evaluating the viability of sheep farms in the Brazilian Midwest (BATISTA, et al., 2018). They can support decision-making on sheep production systems in this region. In addition, the use of the genetic group of pantaneiro lambs, in the process of breed registration in National Agency of Agriculture and Livestock shows the viability of conservation of this breed, whose main characteristic is to be adapted to the environmental conditions of Central Brazil (ORRICO, et al., 2015; GUIDUCCI, 2015).

This research is part of a set of studies that evaluate the most diverse aspects of the system of sheep production in the tropical conditions of Central Brazil. José Francisco cites the efforts made by researches from the Federal University of Grande Dourados, Anhanguera, the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul and the Nuclei of Embrapa Centro-Oeste and Embrapa Pantanal, as examples.
